Hexydec SiteSearch

Hexydec SiteSearch LogoA configurable search engine module is a must for any website. Although the results returned by any such application offer users a simple way to find what they are looking for, under the hood the mechanism can be extremely complex, and the ability to produce relevant results is a must.

Introducing Hexydec SiteSearch: we have designed a configurable search engine that is capable of querying your website's database and returning relevant results in a paginated list, it plugs directly into the Hexydec Framework Navigation database and any bespoke database applications we have developed for your website.

Searching

There is nothing more annoying that not being able to find what you want on a website, even more so when the site in question provides a search engine and you still cannot find what you are looking for. Typically this is because too many results are returned and they are not in a relevant order, or typing more keywords returns more results - not less.

Hexydec SiteSearch has been designed to make searching easy and intuitive for the user, a simple keyword entry box is provided, where one or more keywords can be entered, the database is then queried for pages that match all the requested keywords, using the keyword "OR" between words will return results containing any of those words.

Relevancy

Hexydec SiteSearch returns results ordered by the highest relevancy, this is calculated using a number of parameters, such as where the text appears (e.g. in a heading or body content), and how many times it appears compared to the maximum number of appearances.

Configuration

Search locations, their weightings and the text displayed in the results can all be configured through a configuration file. The system also has a debug output to analyse the relevancy calculation of the returned results.
